If Bobby were a part of a high-school clique

If Bobby were a part of a high-school clique he would probably be in the nerdy clique because he doesn't have many friends. In one part of the book he said that he had few friends. Since he has few friends he's not very popular with people around him. Bobby would probably always turn in his work on time because he seems like he'd want to study a lot he did go to the study hall when he wasn't supposed to even leave the house.

Bobby wouldn't really interact with people because he seems kind of shy. I know this because every time Bobby is around Alicia he doesn't really know what to say. Even through email and phone calls Bobby seems socially awkward.  This tells us that Bobby doesn't really have a lot of friends and before he meet Alicia he probably didn't even talk to his friends after school.  Bobby used to only hang out with a few kids during school when he went to see the school he seemed like he missed them so when he goes back he might change and turn out to be more social.

Bobby A High-School Clique

If Bobby was in high-school he would not be very popular because for one you can't see him and even if he wasn't invisible he is a little nerdy so a lot of people probably wouldn't like him. Bobby although would be a straight A student because he always works hard and cares about school. He is super smart and always pays attention and does his work.

He interact with all the people that are super smart and know a lot of things because that is what he is like. He would probably do a lot of science projects and do cool things that nerdy people would do because he is super smart. This tells us that Bobby is super smart and nerdy but that's fine because he is being himself.

Bobby in A High School Clique

I think that Bobby would definitely not be in the popular clique at his school. He is moody and impatient, and not very outgoing.  Since he plays the trumpet in the jazz band and seems to have only one sort of good friend, I think he would almost be a loner at school, or nerdy. Bobby definitely seems like the guy that would turn in his work a week late. He doesn't like school at all, even though he's smart, and would probably be lazy and not do the work.

Bobby is a high school aged student, fifteen years old, and I think he would be afraid to talk to pretty and popular girls at his school. When he first meets Alicia, the first thought that goes through his head is that she's pretty, and I think that would be his only thought when talking to girls at his school. He gets mad at his parents and Alicia really easily, which tells us that he's rude and impatient, meaning that he's probably not liked by every person in the school.

Discussion Director Reflection

Today in 3rd hour we talked a lot about many different topics about Bobby and Alicia. First off we talked a lot about the Ms. Paggett and them saying Bobby has been to school in a while. We said that they got lucky that they didn't get caught with the Aunt Ethel idea and her saying that she didn't come and stay with him. We think that they did a bad job of trying to hide that Bobby is invisible and why he hasn't been at school.

We also talked a lot about the blanket from Sears, we don't really understand the whole thing about this blanket thing and why it is so important to them. Anyways we think they might be on to something we just don't know what they might be on too. In the end we talked not to much about but we talked about Bobby starting to tell a lot of people about his invisible thing and we didn't think it was a good idea.

Convo With Character??

If I could talk to the main character right now I would probably say how he needs to stop sneaking around and tell people before he gets caught by someone and if his parent want to figure this problem theirselves then they need to hurry up because once someone finds out their chance of it still being a secret is like 5%. I would say that because his parents want to figure the problem out but they won't do anything and they don't test him for things or talk to him about it.

How did I rate My character?

Source

I rated my character as being somewhat on the stronger side. I chose to do that because he has made a lot of the decisions by himself in this book because no one else will help him except for Alicia. Mostly everyone in my group has put the same thing as me for choosing Bobby to be somewhat on the stronger side of the wall.

I think that as I start to finish this book Bobby will become more stronger. Already as I have been reading this book Bobby has been getting stronger and more capable of doing somethings by himself or with Alicia. Alicia has been a great help for Bobby and I think that as I read more she helps him be more independent in his life as he grows.

How I rated my character

I rated my character somewhere in the middle because he isn't strong but isn't weak. I know this because he's not really trying to figure out what is wrong with him and complains about it. One reason he is strong is because when his parents got in a crash he cried a little but still went on with his life. He's also weak because he's not really smart about going out, and when he's with Alicia he acts all nervous.

All the rating from my lit circle group were the same. We all pretty much said the same thing about Bobby. We said he's weak because he isn't smart about his actions and he acts nervous around Alicia. He's strong because he was able to go on with his life when his parents had gotten in a car crash he also told Alicia and her parents that he was invisible. I think that Bobby will get stronger as the book starts to end because so far he's went from weak to in the middle.

Is Bobby Strong or Weak?

In my opinion I think Bobby is kind of in the middle of being strong or weak because he is strong with understanding and being invisible but that's it. He is weak with talking to Alicia and making choices and doing what he wants. He is kind of strong in the inside but not really because he is strong about some things but weak about some things. For example he is weak and strong when his parents got in a car wreck but he is a little bit more strong than weak.

All of my group members agreed with me that Bobby is in the middle of being strong and weak. Because we all agree that he is strong about being invisible but he is weak with Alicia and doing things with his invisibility. Like he never does anything out in public or he is scared to get caught. He also is in the middle of strong and weak in the inside. Like i said before with the car wreck and all if this stuff with family and invisibility.

Author Research

The author of my book is Andrew Clements. He has written many children's books, his book Frindle has won annual book awards. I think he might have wrote this book to show how he struggles but perseveres through it and still accomplishes stuff.

Things Not Seen

If I could talk to Bobby right now, I would tell him ideas on why I think he's invisible. He didn't turn invisible for no reason, so something or someone had to do it. I think it might help him come up with ideas on why he turned invisible and maybe how to fix it and go back to normal. I would also tell him to be more careful in what he does when he's invisible and watch out for other people around him. He has sometimes been a little bit careless and didn't think about the other possibilities that could happen if anyone found out about his condition.
I think some of the reasons that he could be invisible is the electric blanket. He woke up one morning and had his electric blanket on and all of a sudden he was invisible. I also think that the cookies that the neighbor gave him might of had something in them that made him turn invisible. She brings them over a lot and he ate all of them, so I think there's a possibility that it could be the cookies. Also the reason that I would tell him to be more careful is because he has almost been seen before, like when he got his toe ran over he screamed, and if Alicia wouldn't of been blind she would've known sooner that he was invisible.

Things I'd say to my Character

Hey Booby! So hey I can't really see you but I need to talk to you about things I think may fix your problem. You know how your parents told you to just stay home and don't do anything. Well I think you should go and see a doctor. I know it may not sound fun but just sleep on it.  If you don't want to do that then think of something you got or did the day before you noticed you were invisible and get rid of it or don't do it anymore. To change the subject a little I'd like to ask you about Alicia. I think you should not see her anymore because if people see her talking to know one (Bobby because he's invisible) they may think she's crazy and talk bad about her.

I have a lot of question I want to ask you. So do you ever think of robbing a store or something? If I was invisible that would be the first thing on my mind. But, if you do think of robbing don't do it. Another question I have is do think it your neighbor Mrs. Trent had something to do with you disappearing? I think she did because when she came to give you cookies she really wanted to see you. When she left though she put the cookies like 5 feet away from the door then watched to see you come and pick them up. It's like she knows your invisible or maybe she made you invisible and wants to see if it worked.

How did I rate my character?

I rated Bobby on the "character continuum" somewhere in the middle, because of his personality and how he acts of others in the book. For example the way he goes around sears tower nonchalantly and disobeys his parents, Alissa's parents, and the overall "code of conduct" for being invisible.

My group (Mary and Nevin) had very similar views to me, as all three were grouped together in a line, so basically in the same place.

As I finish the book Bobby is overall becoming a weaker character, because he is mentally breaking from being invisible, also it seems like he is improving, I ultimately think that he will decline into a weaker person.

How Did I Rate My Character?

I put my character near the weak part of the line. I felt that he was really weak in the beginning of the book because he was crying about being invisible and he was going to give up. However, I didn't put him on the weakest part of the scale because when he met Alicia, he was brave enough to talk to her and go out of the house. All of my group members put Bobby somewhere in the weak part of the line. We all agreed that Bobby wasn't very strong.

I think Bobby will move into the stronger part of the scale as the book progresses because he already has. He was weak in the beginning of the book, but grew stronger as he talked and spent time with Alicia and his parents. I think he will find a way to become visible and become less weak at the same time.

Nevin.S.

1. I rated bobby as a strong but in the middle a bit.

2. All of our groups opinions where near the same and I don't know if other people agree.

3. I think bobby will become more strong through the book because it gets better and he will have more challenges to face.

MY AUTHOR?

My author is Andrew Clements. He is a children's book writer and a teen book writer. He has wrote books like Frindle, no talking, The school story, etc. I think he wrote these books because he wants teens and children to grow up and read books about things they like rather than things a teacher makes them read and some of his books are so good and the front of the cover looks terrible and then the book ends up being amazing.

What would I say to my main character?

Add caption
If I would get a chance to meet my character in real life I would say that he should stay home instead of going outside because every time he goes outside he always ends up almost getting caught by someone. The reason why I said that is because he always goes outside to go to the library or something and someone always ends up thinking that something strange is going on. Since Bobby is invisible he has to walk outside with no cloths or shoes or hats because if he does and people see they will find out something weird is going on because they will only get to see the things on his body but not him.

To be completely honest I don't understand why he goes out in the first place I mean he is invisible so I can get why he wants to but he only goes to the library to get books I don't think it is that important because he had said that his mom has a lot of book shelves in his house just filled up with books, so why doesn't he read one of those? I don't get it, he might want to go see a girl but other than that I don't know why else he would go out. I mean not every kid in this planet wants to just go to the library to find a book and read.

What I would say to the main character.

I would first ask him to put some clothes on because talking to someone and knowing there naked is weird then I would ask him what it's like to be in the situation he is in. Then I would try to figure out what happened and why.

What Would I say to Bobby Phillips?

(Page 125) (Sorry for all of the POV changes) If you had the chance to talk to your main character right now, what would you say to them?

If I had the chance to talk to Bobby Phillips I would say some pretty detailed things about his life choices.

Let's start off by telling him that he is an idiot; Because he goes out into the public, being naked. Well he is invisible of course. But he has gone against what his mom and dad have said. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE.
He has violated their trust and they can't do anything about it because they obviously can't see him. And then telling him that because of this, he has started a forbidden relationship with a blind girl (her name is Alissa.)

Then telling him that is also kinda smart because of leaving, because since his parents are hospitalized he needs contact with  the outside world, or he is probably crack, and then have a mental breakdown, The only actually contact he's actually had is a phone call with his GF (or his metaphorical one anyway)

During this post I was brutally honest because I just needed to rant today (Coffee makes me routy.) And that some of the things that Bobby has done where and are good/bad.

What would I say to the main character

If I had the chance to talk to my main character I would say that he needs to be more careful about going outside of the house. I would say it because every time he goes out he ends up saying something when he's invisible and it freaks people out. Like when he went to the library his toe got smashed by a chair and he yelled ouch. Which caused a girl to get freaked out about what he did.

When he went to the school to go into a study room he was making a lot of noise which also freaked people out. When he went out in the hall with Alicia they kept saying stuff and people kept looking at Alicia like she was crazy or something. Then when Bobby was walking Alicia home she figured out he was invisible and she asked some guy on the street if he could see Bobby. The guy had told her no and she was freaking out because he really was invisible not just some creep on the street.

What Would I Say to the Main Character

If I had a chance to talk to Bobby Phillips I would tell him to explore the world. You are invisible man, you can do whatever you want just check for your surroundings and make sure you're always on the lookout. Also Alicia likes you Bobby so go for her, and hangout with here because she doesn't care that your invisible because she can't ever see you.

The reason I would say this to Bobby is because he is being cautious a lot and he can be a little bit more free with his life. I'm not telling him to do whatever he wants I'm just telling him to have some fun in his life and use being invisible to your advantage not disadvantage.

Bobby has gone out in public a lot and done a lot of things that he is using invisible to his advantage but I wish he would just do more things to make his life a little bit more interesting.

Things not seen author

Andrew Clements is a children's book writer. He is a 66 year old man who was born in Camden New Jersey. His education is he went to Northwestern University and National Louis University. He has wrote many books before such as, The School Story, No Talking, and Lunch Money. All of these books are great children's books and some of them I have read. I think he wrote Things Not Seen because he wanted to talk about a kid who's life changed overnight. He probably made this to show just because someone has a disability doesn't mean they can't see or hear you.

Things Not Seen Author

Andrew Clements is the author of 'Things Not Seen'. He has wrote books like Lunch Money, Frindle, About Average, The Map Trap, No Talking, and many more. He writes many books that include children and talks about things that they struggle with like getting their lunch money stolen and getting a bad report card. I think he wrote Things Not Seen to entertain kids and adults.

What Would I say to my Main Character Right Now?

If I could talk to Bobby right now, I would probably tell him that I am impressed with how he's coping with his invisibility. If I was in his shoes, I would probably have been freaking out and gone into a panic mode. Bobby literally just took it all in stride and went downstairs for breakfast like it was nothing. I would also tell him that he shouldn't lost hope on finding a way to become visible again.

One other thing that I would tell Bobby would be that I think he needs to stop being so stubborn when he and Alicia are talking. Whenever the two are together, they always end up disagreeing with each other. One last thing I would tell him would be that I think it's really gross how he's always naked in public. If someone brushes against him, that would be terrifying and horrible.

Book's main conflict

Bobby is struggling with his invisibility and it's been hard on him because he can't really do anything. Things have been making the conflict even bigger.  One thing is that the parents got in a bad wreck and the doctor called to see who would watch Bobby. This made it more complicated because no one else knew he was invisible besides his parents.  He made a new friend with a blind girl but that can be bad because what if she told someone about him and people wouldn't see him.  Consequently, they would think she is crazy. I think Bobby will fix his conflict but I think it will cause harm to his family.  I think this because when they discover he is invisible, scientists might want to take Bobby away from his family to study him and research why he is invisible.

What Is Your Book's Main Conflict?

Bobby is struggling with being invisible and his parents not spending much time. They also have been solving all of his problems for him and he wants to be able to figure them out on his own. He went to take a shower and when he came out he's was invisible and he could only see his shadow. His parents have also got in a car accident causing them to have to go to the hospital. His dad's wrists are messed up and he mom had a concussion and broken nose. I think he or his parents will find a way to make a cure or figure out a way to reverse it.

Conflict?

What the character is struggling with why he is invisible. I think it is man vs himself because he doesn't know why he is invisible and no one else is invisible and his own body doesn't know why he is invisible so it would be man vs himself. I think he is dreaming because you can't actually be invisible in real life. It can also be man vs man because he is always fighting with his parent because they always have to solve his problems. I think that he will eventually wake up out of his dream and realise it was just a dream and everything was not real.

Conflict in the story

Book Cover
I think that in this story so far it is man vs. man because Bobby is trying to figure out a way to be seen again. (not be invisible). Things have not been doing so good because he cant find a way to not be invisible anymore, but things have been hard because his parents get hurt and they really need help but Bobby cant do anything about it. I think that Bobby will end up finding a way to not be invisible anymore. His dad might let a scientist experiment on him and see why it happened in the first place. Or being invisible might wear off over time and he will be seen again after a while.

I think that Bobby might just be dreaming in this book because I don't understand how else he can turn invisible with just going to take a shower, and it does not explain what he was doing or if he did anything to turn invisible it only explains about him taking a shower then he cant see himself.

Main conflict

The character is struggling with trying to figure out why he's invisible and what to do about his parents being in an accident. The event that complicated the conflict further was whenever Bobby heard that his parents were in a wreck he was crushed and was automatically sorry because right before his father left to get his mom he was arguing with both his mom in dad. He had went to visit them in the hospital but he claimed he wasn't a family member so he couldn't go back and see them so instead he hid his stuff and walked to the room his mom was in. I think that Bobby or his family will solve the conflict without causing more harm because his father was already giving him clues when he said that he still had a shadow in the light but wasn't able to be seen. Which by saying there's still a shadow could be giving readers a hint about how they're gonna solve the conflict about Bobby being invisible.

Main Conflict

Bobby is invisible as we already know right. Well now that his parents have just got in a wreck it hasn't helped any of the situation. As we already know when he went out in public he was scaring people because know one could see him and he was doing things that people could hear. He is pretty smart so eventually he does put on some clothes so it looks like he is a real person. Also when he was going to the library his scarf fell off which then looked like he had no neck, but luckily the girl was blind and could not see that he was invisible.

Link
So back to what I was saying that now that his parents got in a wreck it hasn't helped. Now he has to go see them in the hospital and what if something falls off then everyone will see that he isn't normal. And the Doctor said that he isn't old enough to stay home alone so he has to get a babysitter or someone from his family to watch him. But he can't because then they will see that he is invisible and flip out, because the only people that know are his parents. What is Bobby going to do know that all of this happened?

Things Not Seen

The characters is struggling with being invisible. He doesn't know how to cure it or what caused it. He can't let anyone find out that he is invisible or else it will cause to much attention. The parents got in a bad car crash and are now in the hospital. They have to stay in the hospital for a while, so they tried to get him a babysitter. He has to figure out a way to lie and says he has a babysitter already so no one finds out he's invisible. I don't think the character will find out how to go back to normal anytime soon, but maybe in the future. I think that people will find out though.

Conflict

Whats the conflict: I think the conflict is man V.S self because hes invisible and doesn't know why yet.

Why this is bad: He doesn't like being invisible, he has to walk around either naked or with a lot of cloths on and he cant tell anyone.

Predict whats gonna happen: There gonna solve the problem and figure it out with a bit of bumps on the way.

Conflict: Man vs. Self

The conflict that Bobby is experiencing in the book is Man vs. Self. He is invisible, therefore he is struggling with the fact that his life might never be the same because of it. He is also confused as to why he was the person this had to happen to and that being alone is not fun. Other things that have happened to him that have made it worse would be that fact that he has to be naked for him to be completely invisible, therefore if he wants to go somewhere, he risks being bumped into by a random person, and that would just be weird. I think that Bobby will solve the conflict with help from his friend Alicia, and I think and hope that he will not cause harm to anyone because if he did cause harm to, for example, an innocent bystander, that person wouldn't even be able to see him. On an emotional standard however, I think that he will be able to get rid of the invisibility, but he might have some bumps in the road along the way.

Conflict!

*NO SPOILERS IN POST!*
I believe that our book is Man vs Himself
Bobby Phillips is the main teenage character in Things Not Seen, and it's pretty obvious what the conflict is, and that is being invisible. Although it may not seem that bad, he is really struggling to comprehend and accept that his has happened to him. Both of his parents however are very smart (professor and physicist) and they just look at it from the viewpoint as an experiment.

His invisibility means that his body and skin are not seen, so wearing clothes would hinder the ability to be 100% not seen. And along with that are some compilations. Bobby meets a blind girl Alicia, who touches him on the arm doesn't think too much. But after even more inspection, she touches his ribcage, being blind, she thinks that hes a creeper.

Yes, I do think that the characters will resolve the conflict, because Bobby and Alicia had a phone call, which I think will turn into more calls, and *prediction* it will lead to a relationship.

Discussion Reflection

Today in our discussion we talked about many things about the book. We talked a lot about what we thought of all of these invisible things that are going on with Bobby. We said that we think it is kind of odd and we don't really know if he is invisible or if there's just something in the air. We also awkwardly about him and the blind girl meeting and what we think would've happened if she wasn't blind. I would say more but I don't want to spoil the book, so yeah that's pretty much it.

                  THE MAIN CHARACTER THOUGHTS

I think that our main character is cunning and naughty. He is invisible and goes everywhere naked so that if he wears cloths he will have invis face. he finds a blind girl and he starts to like her because in the text it said that she was pretty. Robert was mad at his dad for trusting him too much and then his dad and mom suffered from a car crash that made bobby feel bad.

My impression on the Main Character

Bobby is sneaky because he isn't suppose to leave the house but he does and goes to the public library. He is also smart because he made a plan where he wore thick layers of clothes so people didn't know he was invisible. He disliked how his parents wouldn't do anything to help him. He liked the blind girl that he ran into at the library. He likes to spy on people when he's invisible. I don't really like him because he uses his invisible body to spy on people. I think he should just stay home and communicate to people through technology.

My Impression on the Main Character

His actions show us that he is a little rebellious but also smart. He snuck out but he thought about it first by putting a lot of layers on so no one knows he's invisible. We learned that he disliked the fact that his parents were sometimes very careless. He liked the girl because she was blind and didn't know he was invisible. I like the character so far because even though he's invisible and still found ways to go out in public and not get caught.

Discussion Director: What We Talked About

Nevin is the normal Discussion Director, but he has been absent so I (Mary) am filling in for this week. Parker and I discussed how Bobby became invisible, Alicia's blindness, and Bobby's parents. We honestly have no idea how and why Bobby became invisible, but we were thinking that possibly Bobby could turn visible again by taking a shower because that's where he first became invisible? Parker made a point that when Alicia became blind after she * SPOILER ALERT* fell off her bed, she must have hit an optic nerve. We both thought that Bobby's parents must have not been too freaked out about Bobby's invisibility because they were genius' who looked at it like a science experiment.

What Impression Of Your Main Character Do You Have So Far?

Bobby's actions tell me that he is sneaky and smart. When he went to go to the library he was smart enough to cover his body with clothes covering everything from head to toes because he is invisible. He was also very sneaky when he entered the library to keep hidden like taking his clothes off and putting them in the ceiling to hide them. Even though he is invisible he was smart enough to be sneaky and not make too much noise. He also seems really smart he knew a lot of science stuff. Bobby likes to read a lot. He visited the library when his parents were at work and he had to stay home. I like the main character because he crept out of his house to go to the library when his mom and dad told him to stay home which makes the book more exciting to read and kept me reading because I personally hate reading. He's also not shy and he keeps conversations going.

My First Impression Of: Bobby

My first impression of Bobby is that he is a nerd and always does his homework before he gets home and he is always in bed by 8. His parents are very smart and whenever he has a question they always know the answer no matter what it is. The reason I feel like bobby is a nerd is because the name bobby to me doesn't make me think trouble maker or crazy little boy or gamer, he sounds like a nerd, plane old nerd.

Bobby's habits, likes and dislikes are that he likes to read books because his mom is always handing him  books that he ends up falling in love with and he likes spending time at the library looking for books that seem interesting. He likes to listen to music and when he is board he turns on music. He doesn't like to go outside and play because he preferes to be inside either listening to music or reading!

I like my main character because he is the complete opposite of me and I like learning about him and what his life is like and his dislikes. I like hearing about his crazy family and all the dumb things he says about them. I can't wait to finish this book and learn many more things!

What is my impression of my main character so far?

So far in things not seen the main characters name is Bobby or (Robert), as his mother calls him if he gets an attitude with her or his father. In this book I have learned that Bobby loves to read, he has said that when his mom can tell he is bored that she goes over to a shelf and picks a book and gives it to him to read. You can definitely tell that my character (Bobby) is invisible because he wakes up and he cant see himself in the mirror and he explains that he goes down-stairs and his parents cant see him and they think that he is just playing a prank on them but later they find out that he is not messing around with them. I don't exactly like my character because he has a lot of attitude but he can be nice like when he bumped into a girl and she dropped all of her things and he picked them up for her and handed them to her and then notices that she is blind.

What impression of your main character do you have so far?

My impression on the main character is that he seems worried and just wants to know what's happening to him and that's why he gets so annoyed about things easily especially his mom and dad. He got annoyed when his parents thought him being invisible was just a joke. I've learned that Bobby is a very impatient person, he doesn't like it when his dad makes things last forever. He doesn't want to wait to figure out what's wrong with him he wants to know as soon as possible.

He seemed really annoyed when his dad kept going on and on about what he thinks about it. I've learned that Bobby doesn't like when his dad over exaggerates about what he thinks. He knew what his dad was up to right as he started asking him a bunch of questions. I like but kind of dislike the main character. One reason I don't like him is because he gets annoyed to easily. One reason I like him is because he seems confident that he will figure out what happened to him and he seems like he won't give up. Plus he doesn't let him being invisible stop him from doing things he likes/ wants to do.

My Impression on the Main Character

I really like the main character Bobby. I like him because when he just wakes up one morning and can't see himself in the mirror he doesn't just flip out he just goes with it. He takes some advantage of it and doesn't over react about any of it. His parents flip out about it and he just let's them and just says it's alright guys i'm still here. He gets caught going out in public because he wasn't there when his dad got home, but he didn't start yelling back at his dad he just alright i'm sorry. He is always just goes with the flow and doesn't act like a drama queen and just does what he does.

He is kind of sneaky because he does little things to disobey his parents. For example he goes out into the public library and hangs out there even though he isn't supposed to. He is also very smart because obviously he doesn't want people to know he is invisible because it is kind of not normal. He puts on layers of everything so all you see is clothes and ave no idea that you can't see him. The best part is that he doesn't really think to much that he is "invisible." He just acts normal and just goes with whatever he has to go with. He gets out of school because all of this and he still tries to do something productive because he is a good student. I really like Bobby so far. I can't wait to see what other great things Bobby does.

Bobby Phillips: A First Impression

My first impression of Bobby is that he is a troublemaker, I think this because of his personality the way his parents and teachers refer to him; as a mischievous child who gets sent to the hallway and goes outside not wearing anything... (anything at all..)

I have learned about his likes, dislikes, and his habits as well. Some things that he likes are playing trumpet, reading, listening to jazz and oldie goldie's like The Beastie Boys. Some things that he doesn't like are school, and although quite vague, he HATES how both of his parents are super smart, and they make a scientific experiment about everything.

I honestly do not like Bobby because of a few tiny reasons, one, he is bubbly, two, he is a troublemaker, and three, he's the sass-master. By that I mean he gets out of almost every situation by sassing either his parents security guards, or even blind girls. I aspire to be as good and sassy as him.

Impression of Main Character: Bobby Phillips

My impression of the 15 year-old main character, Bobby Phillips, was that he seemed like the sort of person to not do his homework, or the person to be most likely to be sent to the principal's for falling asleep in class. In the first chapter of the book, Bobby doesn't seem disappointed at all that he's missing school. He looks at school like something that isn't a necessity, as he says quote en quote from the text, "Most of the time I can barely tolerate it," and he also says, "But if you're me, it's just school."

We learn in the second chapter of the book that Bobby likes to read books, despite his dislike of school. His mother apparently gave him a book every time he said he was bored when he was little, so he read all the time when he was younger. When Bobby turned invisible, he went to the library a lot, which shows that he was dedicated to reading desipite his situation.

I have mixed feelings about Bobby. One on hand, I resent him because he loves his parents, but he literally says in the first couple pages of the book that, "....they're okay in small doses, and they can be useful. Them knowing what I'm up to makes them less useful." On the other hand, I like the fact that he was brave enough to go outside and even though he was freaked out in the beginning, he adapted quickly to the fact that he was invisible. As the story has progressed, I've decided that I like him more than I don't like him, because he is kind to a secondary character named Alicia who is blind.

All About Us!

Hello from room 201! The group for the book "Things Not Seen" in this class is Mary and Parker. Mary likes to read anything fantasy or sci-fi related, though she also likes biographies. Parker also likes Science-fiction and reads more quickly than "savoring" the book itself.

Mary chose the book Things Not Seen for her first choice because it sounded interesting and intriguing, as the main character turns invisible. Parker chose this book for his 1st choice because he knows what it feels like to be invisible.

We have both read about 50 pages so far. To give a brief and vague summary, Bobby Phillips turned invisible on a somewhat normal February day. He thinks that he's alone in this world because of his invisibility, until he meets a girl named Alicia is blind and possibly the only person who understands him at the moment.

Welcome!

Welcome to your Literature Circle's blog! You will be using this space to discuss and share your ideas with other Bode students reading your chosen book. Before we get started, here's a refresher on how we use our blogs at Bode!

When Posting...

  1. Reread your post for mistakes before you post it!
  2. Don't bother other peoples' posts! You are sharing this space. Don't open a post unless you are its author.
  3. Focus on your responses-- not fancy fonts, not cutesy pictures, not making people laugh. This is a space for you to dig into and discuss the text!
  4. Use images if you want, but don't use them if they are distracting. Any posts with distracting visuals will lose points when graded-- only use meaningful pictures.
  5. Don't spoil the book for anyone!

When responding...

  1. Don't be a jerk when you reply to a blog post. Correcting spelling and grammar is ALWAYS off-limits-- that's not your job! Your response should be positive and supportive of your peer's writing. If you don't agree with what they are posting, that's fine! Just make sure that when you express your opinion, you do it in a way that isn't mean or insulting. Your goal is to add to a conversation-- not to shut one down. Remember! If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!
  2. If something isn't clear or is left untouched in the original post, ask away! Comments are a great way to suggest new blog posts or to begin a conversation.
  3. Don't just say "I agree" and move on-- dig into the text! Use what you already know to spark a discussion!
  4. Don't spoil the book for anyone!
